The Phenolic Acids of Human Urine*
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the course of an investigation of the metabolism of aromatic compounds in phenylketonuria, it was found that, along with the abnormal metabolism of phenylalanine in this disease, there are other striking deviations from normal. These are manifested by the excretion of greatly increased amounts of some indole acids (1) and phenolic acids (2,3) which are present in normal human urine in small quantities. In order to gain a clearer understanding of the deranged metabolism of aromatic compounds in phenylketonuria and in other disorders, it became necessary to examine the phenolic constituents of normal human urine. Some procedures already have been reported for the chromatographic characterization of various phenolic acids (4-Q). The compounds for which detailed information has been reported are few in number, and there has been no systematic investigation of the simple compounds which might be expected to occur in urine. The purpose of this paper is to report a description of the phenolic acids of human urine. A combination of solvent systems which is suitable for the separation of forty-nine authentic aromatic acids by two-dimensional paper chromatography has been developed.

متن کاملThe excretion of m-hydroxyhippuric acid by humans.
The chromatographic behavior of several simple phenolic acids was described recently, and a description of the phenolic acids present in human urine has been given (2). Experiments aimed towards establishing a preliminary identification of many of the urinary acids revealed that several compounds having the characteristics of m-hydroxyphenyl acids are found. These include m-hydroxyhippuric, -be...
متن کاملInvestigation of the effect of light, phenylalanine and caffeic acid on the production of phenolic acids in cell suspension culture of Salvia leriifolia
Abstract: Salvia leriifolia is a medicinal plant belonging to lamiaceae family. In this study, the influence of light, phenylalanine and caffeic acid on cell growth and accumulations of phenolic acids were investigated. For this propose, the leaf explants were cultured in MS medium supplemented with BAP and NAA for callus induction. A cell suspension culture of S. leriifolia derived from lea...

1. The extent to which phenolic derivatives of benzoic acid (seven); of phenylacetic acid (one); of 3-phenylpropionic acid (one) and of cinnamic acid (six) served as precursors of the urinary benzoic acid excreted by sheep was determined after administration as continuous drips via rumen or abomasal cannulas. 2. Phenolic derivatives of benzoic or of phenylacetic acid were not dehydroxylated to ...
متن کاملChocolate intake increases urinary excretion of polyphenol-derived phenolic acids in healthy human subjects.
BACKGROUND Proanthocyanidins, the most abundant polyphenols in chocolate, are not depolymerized in the stomach and reach the small intestine intact, where they are hardly absorbed because of their high molecular weight. In vitro and in vivo studies using pure compounds as substrates suggest that proanthocyanidins and the related catechin monomers may be degraded into more bioavailable low-molec...
